Combined Gay News Headlines (T5T-1)

[See post to watch Flash video] After Sunday's kiss-in to protest the treatment of two men who kissed on Mormon Church property in Salt Lake City, a police report reveals what the cops saw June 9 in the case of Matt Aune and boyfriend Derek Jones, whose kiss turned into a violent affair. Most notable is [...]
With so much homosexuality in the church these days, it's only appropriate to hear ex-Mormon Kent James (fans know him as Nick Name) recount how he plugged your boyfriend. (Yes, this song is NSFW.) You could say the Episcopal Church caved to pressure with its new decision to allow individual churches to anoint gay preachers, but that would be like saying the Episcopal Church was a unified organization not subject to splinter groups, in-fighting, and name calling. Which it totally is! By OK-ing individual churches' rights to have gay [...]
OK, so I should probably start off by apologizing to the mass of women who just went shoe shopping for that perfect gladiator sandal who I am probably about to offend. I just couldn’t stop myself from opening my big mouth on the subject of my unrelenting hatred for gladiator sandals (come on, I’m half [...]

What- doesn't everyone go to the Cape in the summer for genealogical research?? ;)

Photobucket

In another 10 days, Charlie and I are packing up the kids and heading down to Cape Cod for a week (with limited Wi-Fi... eeks!); the above is the view from our rented house's front yard... so I'm going to be pretty busy for awhile and off-line.

We spent a fantastic weekend last year down there and decided to follow it up this year with our first ever real family vacation. So there will be sand castles, swimming, sailing (some of his childhood friends still live there), and generally relaxing.

For them, anyways- I'm planning on hitting every cemetery between Provincetown and Plymouth, time permitting and taking a gazillion photos of ancient ancestral headstones. There are a good dozen or more family lines of mine that lived on Cape Cod back as early as 1637, when one of my ancestors settled in Chatham.

In Bucksport ME, where some descendants of these Cape Cod ancestors settled, I have found 5 generations of the same family line of mine, beginning with my 5th great-grandfather. According to records, his father is buried in P'town.

The earliest gravestone I have ever found here in Maine is of another 6th great-grandfather, a Revolutionary War veteran. In Orleans, my 11th great-grandfather's gravestone has been recorded; he died in 1729 at age 79.

Born in 1650- WOW.

Same as my mother and grandparents before me, I have researched not only my own lines, but those of my husband and his families. I have a database pushing 10,000 individuals and easily double that again to data-enter in my "spare time" and no idea at all how many cemeteries I have walked through or researched, be it online or in libraries.

So you can well imagine how this lifelong genealogy nut feels about the desecration of the Burr Oaks Cemetery in Chicago. I really haven't been able to formulate the right words to convey my horror, disgust, sadness and frustration , let alone empathy for the families of those who may or may not be affected by this horrendous scandal.

The closest I can come to imagining the scope of this story is to imagine if these criminal activites had occurred at Mount Auburn in Cambridge MA or Mt Hope in Bangor.

I love cemeteries and always have- the history within, the family stories... hopefully there is eventually an outcome that somewhat eases the pain  now being felt by so many.

There is a monument at the Eldredge Public Library in Chatham that I plan on visiting- will close with its inscription, as it seems fitting today:

HE WHO HAS NO FEELINGS OF VENERATION FOR HIS PREDECESSORS SHOULD EXPECT NONE FROM THOSE WHO FOLLOW HIM

Lord help me, I nearly fell out of my chair at work when I saw this story about Marion Barry. Is he trying to be a all-purpose punchline?
Washington, D.C. City Councilman Marion Barry is accusing his openly gay colleague, David Catania, of targeting him on unrelated ethics questions because Barry refused to support a measure that resulted in the District government recognizing legally-married same-sex couples, according to report by a local FOX News affiliate.

Barry, a longtime supporter of LGBT rights in D.C., has cited discord between the LGBT community and African-American religious leaders for his current stance on marriage equality.  New ethics questions have surfaced about Barry's role in administering grant money authorized by the city council.

Something tells me that Catania had nothing to do with this behavior on Councilman Berry's part:
An audio recording is raising new questions about D.C. Ward 8 City Councilman Marion Barry and whether or not he had a role in the management of grant money-- hundreds of thousands of dollars in council earmarks awarded to several non-profits in Anacostia.

A woman who received some of that money is now claiming someone in Barry's office forged her signature on fraudulent documents. Barry says she's a liar while also claiming another city councilmember is behind the allegations.

...But At-Large Councilman David Catania says he's taking Wise's allegations very seriously and wants the Inspector General to investigate. Catania read a statement into the record Monday afternoon.

"What is clearly alleged, however, is that all of Mr. Barry's grant recipients and fiscal agents recognized Ms. Richardson as the ultimate administrator of the council grant money, and that her orders allegedly came from Mr. Barry," said Catania.Wise has been contacted by the FBI, btw. This thing is a circus. If that wasn't bad enough, at a press conference sideshow addressing Barry's arrest for stalking a former girlfriend, Donna Watts-Brighthaupt, Barry's spokesperson, Natalie Williams reads a statement basicallically saying Watts-Brighthaupt is nuts. See it below the fold.

On Tuesday evening during the statement, Williams said Watts, 40, was mentally unstable. She said that Watts has admitted that she is currently seeing a local psychiatrist, and has been diagnosed with compulsive behavior disorder and clinical depression. Williams also repeated that the charges against Barry are false.

"Ms. Watts should not be believed," said Williams. "Her allegations against Mr. Barry are simply not true. They are lies."

As Williams made the statement, Watts shouted out that what Williams was saying about her wasn't true.

"It looks like they're scared of something, aren't they?" Watts told FOX 5 after getting back into her vehicle. "I haven't said anything-they've still got to do this? I must be bad."

What is in the water in DC?
Monday, Gary Randall was all a-flutter because two of his Referendum 71 signature gatherers had their pictures taken as they sat at a petition table.

Agressive Opposition at Wal-Mart
...Then this older woman came by, very aggressively against us, speaking in an angry tone, using language I do not use. Eric said that he would go in and talk to the manager, which he did. A man with her took our pictures. Then some time later the police came telling us we were trespassing and that we had to leave.
I presume that Gary intended his readers to conclude this was bad, or he wouldn't have reported it.  But then Tuesday morning he recommended that his followers do the very thing he clucked over the day before:

Video Camera Wards Off HarasHarassment
...one of our signature gatherers gave us a great idea yesterday.  She emailed me saying that she has found that if she keeps her video camera with her and begins taking video of those who are verbally assaulting her, they leave very quickly. If you have any video of this kind of behavior, please send it to us at info@faithandfreedom.us.
So fair-minded people taking pictures is bad, but if an anti-family Garyity can get an angry ho-mo-sekshulist on tape all is forgiven?

There goes Gary Cottontail,
Flippin' down the floppin' trail,
Flippity floppity
Double-standards are his way...

I think it only fair to remind Gary to be careful in encouraging his followers to get too shutterbuggy.  Some of them just don't know when to stop.
