A leading advocate for repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is expecting legislation to emerge in the Senate in time for hearings in the Senate Armed Services Committee this fall.

Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, said Tuesday he's anticipating a Senate repeal bill to debut within weeks.

"A number of Democrats are ready for bill introduction, and I suspect we may soon have a Senate bill introduced," he said. "Yes, I know many of you have heard those predictions before, but the reality is I believe we will see that in the next two to three weeks."

Washington, D.C., on Tuesday lost its bid to host the 2014 Gay Games, the world's largest LGBT sporting event.

In an announcement made in Cologne, Germany, the International Federation of Gay Games said it picked Cleveland over D.C. to host the quadrennial LGBT sports competition, which is expected to draw as many as 12,000 athletes and 80,000 spectators to the host city.

The announcement came at a news conference that was broadcast live online. Among those attending was a delegation of about 15 people from D.C. who helped organize the District's $1 million bid for the games.
