Feature Story: The evolution of the District is fast-paced these days. The population is growing, streetcars are on their way, and there's once again a first lady in the White House who makes fashion-news headlines. And for the first time since its 1992 debut, MTV's Real World landed in Washington.

Habitués of D.C.'s gay nightlife would surely have seen the crew pile into any number of nightspots during the course of the filming. And if they were following all the Real World blogs, they quite likely knew that Mike Manning possibly had more reason than the rest to hit the gay spots.
The 22-year-old with the "boy next door" looks, hailing from Thornton, Colo., and taking time off from the University of Northern Colorado to live his life minute-by-minute for the cameras, came out as bisexual not long before filming began.

News: Pay attention to the sides of Metrobuses these days and you're bound to see advertisements promoting exotic vacation destinations, local news channels or Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
While it's safe to say the furry cartoon characters' movie promotion won't raise any eyebrows, not all ads running on Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA, aka Metro) buses are so tame. Especially in recent days.
Some corners of the local LGBT community have been outraged by banner advertisements purchased by Stand for Marriage DC, a group that has been so far unsuccessful in fighting marriage equality in the District. ...more

News: In a long-running interstate dispute, an ''ex-lesbian'' in Virginia failed to show up last Friday to transfer custody of her 7-year-old daughter to the woman's former civil union partner.
The former partner and the girl's other mother, Janet Jenkins of Vermont, notified police in Fairfax that Lisa Miller did not appear at the designated transfer location in Virginia, as ordered by a family court in Rutland, Vermont.
Attorneys for Miller say Miller has not been in touch with them for more than a month. Whereabouts of the 7-year-old are apparently unknown to anyone other than Miller, who has also disappeared. ...more
