Argentina hosts world GLBT soccer championship

The South American country of Argentina will host the International Gay and Lesbian Football Association World Championship later this month, with players expected from all over the world.

GLBT footballers will converge on the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires for the event, which has the support of the Federation of International Football (FIFA), the Argentina Soccer Association (AFA).

“The World Championship is a sports and political event with a clear message: every player has the right to calmly express his sexual orientation without any kind of prejudice.”

The week-long event is said to have both male and female teams from a number of countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, Denmark, England, Iceland, Ireland, Mexico, USA, Uruguay and Venezuela.
