Union official condemned for Anti-Gay Slur

The executive board of the Civil Service Technical Guild Local 375 of District Council 37 in New York passed a resolution condemning their sergeant at arms, David Grant, for using the word "faggot" at a Guild meeting in September and quoting from the Bible to call homosexuality "abominable" and "detestable," the Chief-Leader, a labor newspaper, reported. The executive chair of the Local's Budget Committee was also cited for referring to "those faggots" when a mention of Pride at Work, the LGBT union group, came up at a March meeting.

Before action was taken against Grant, Fred Newton, chair of the local's lesbian and gay caucus, told the Chief-Leader, "Our gay and lesbian members are furious. Any agency's Equal Opportunity unit would crucify him for what he said."
