Europe has made surprisingly rapid strides in GLBT equality in recent years, but a comprehensive non-discrimination clause has been watered down at the behest of an EU member nation.
The European Commission had intended to implement a non-discrimination measure that all EU countries would have to abide by. The measure would have protected GLBT citizens of member nations from discrimination; but Germany has pushed back and now the Commission is surrendering GLBT rights and focusing solely on protections for the disabled, according to an Apr. 22 article.
