Salem, MA - Just as cargo ships bustled in and out of Salem’s ports 200 years ago, this summer cruise ships will stir up the waters outside the city of peace.
The first of the themed cruises will be held June 6 with the Salem Gay Pride Cruise, a tribute to the gay community that some hope will pave the way to having an official local gay pride day.

Salem - Unbeknownst to most of the local population, Salem State College students have been living it up every spring at a unique event called Raspberry Swirl.
Salem State will hold its seventh annual drag show, Raspberry Swirl, hosted by Dani Campbell of MTV’s “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila,” on Thursday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Entertainment meets fierce competition at the show, with about a dozen performers dressed in drag dancing to everything from modern House-style techno to retro ’80s and disco tunes. The event — which is 18-plus — culminates in the crowning of a king and queen.
Raspberry Swirl, which started out as a “Drag Ball” is now the most highly anticipated events hosted by the alliance. It now includes numerous games interspersed throughout the performances, allowing the audience to get in on the fun and even leave with prizes.
The Annual Raspberry Swirl will be held Thursday, April 3, 7:30 p.m., at Veteran’s Hall, Ellison Campus Center, Salem State College, 352 Lafayette St. Cost: $10 for Salem State students with ID, $20 general admission.
